The best Halloween party drinks are the ones you make once. Nobody in a costume wants to stand at the counter shaking cocktails one at a time. Make a punch bowl and a pitcher before the doorbell starts, set out a ladle, and the drinks look after themselves.
Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, October 31, so expect a full house and a late night. Below are six batch cocktails that each serve a crowd from one bottle, the shopping math for your guest count, and the timing that catches people out every year.
The short answer
Six batch cocktails, one bottle each:
| Drink | Spirit | Serves (about) | Looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Witch's Brew Punch | Vodka | 16 | Glowing green |
| Bloody Margaritas | Blanco tequila | 12 | Deep blood red |
| Poison Apple Rye Punch | Canadian rye | 16 | Cloudy amber |
| Cauldron Spiced Rum Punch | Spiced rum | 16 | Dark and fizzy |
| Vampire's Kiss Sangria | Red wine + cognac | 10 | Inky purple |
| Black Widow Sparkler | Sparkling rosé | 8 | Pink with dark berries |
How much to buy: plan on one drink per guest per hour for the first two hours, then a bit less. A party of 20 that runs four hours needs about 60–70 drinks. That's roughly four of the punches above, plus some beer and wine for the people who don't want punch.
Timing: Halloween is a Saturday. Most LCBO stores close at 9 PM, and Ontario stops all alcohol sales and delivery at 11 PM.
The rule that makes batch cocktails work
Every recipe below follows the same proportion: one part spirit to about three parts mixer. A standard 750 mL bottle holds about 17 standard drinks of 40% spirit, at Canada's standard 1.5 oz (43 mL) pour. Stretch it with 2–2.5 litres of juice and soda and you get a punch at roughly the strength of a normal highball.
Three things keep a punch from turning flat or watery:
- Chill everything first. Put the spirit, juice and soda in the fridge the night before. Warm ingredients melt ice twice as fast.
- Add the bubbles last. Mix the spirit and juice ahead of time, then top up with soda or sparkling wine right before guests arrive.
- Use a block of ice, not cubes. Freeze water (or juice) in a loaf pan or a bowl. One big block melts slowly. For a Halloween touch, freeze a rubber-glove "hand" of water (use a clean, food-safe glove) and float it in the bowl.
1. Witch's Brew Punch (vodka)
The green punch is the one guests photograph. It's sweet, tart and easy to drink, which is also why you should label it.
- 1 bottle (750 mL) vodka, such as Smirnoff No. 21 or Absolut
- 1 L pineapple juice
- 500 mL limeade or lime cordial
- 1 L lemon-lime soda or ginger ale
- Lime wheels and a few drops of green food colouring if you want it brighter
Stir the vodka, pineapple juice and limeade in a punch bowl. Add the ice block, then the soda. Serves about 16.
Make it smoke: a small piece of food-grade dry ice in the bowl gives the classic cauldron fog. Handle it with tongs, never let anyone swallow a piece, and serve from a ladle so no ice ends up in a cup. If that sounds like too much supervision for a party, skip it. The punch tastes the same.
2. Bloody Margaritas (tequila)
A regular margarita turned dark red with blood orange or pomegranate juice. It's the strongest drink on this list, so pour it over plenty of ice.
- 1 bottle (750 mL) blanco tequila, such as José Cuervo Silver or Patrón Silver
- 375 mL orange liqueur (or 375 mL orange juice for a lighter version)
- 375 mL fresh lime juice
- 500 mL blood orange or pomegranate juice
- 125 mL simple syrup, to taste
- Black salt or red sugar for the rims
Mix everything in two pitchers and refrigerate. Pour over ice into rimmed glasses. Serves about 12.
3. Poison Apple Rye Punch (Canadian whisky)
Apple cider and rye is the most autumn thing you can put in a glass, and it's the one people who "don't like cocktails" will drink.
- 1 bottle (750 mL) Canadian rye, such as J.P. Wiser's Deluxe
- 1.5 L fresh apple cider (the cloudy, non-alcoholic kind)
- 125 mL lemon juice
- 60 mL maple syrup
- 750 mL ginger ale
- Cinnamon sticks and thin red apple slices
Combine the rye, cider, lemon and maple syrup. Add ginger ale and ice right before serving. Serves about 16.
Serve it warm instead: skip the ginger ale, heat the cider with the cinnamon sticks until steaming (don't boil it), take it off the heat and stir in the rye. Keep it in a slow cooker on the lowest setting.
4. Cauldron Spiced Rum Punch (rum)
Dark, fizzy and lightly spiced, like a big-batch Dark 'n' Stormy.
- 1 bottle (750 mL) spiced rum, such as Captain Morgan Original Spiced
- 1.5 L ginger beer
- 500 mL apple or cranberry juice
- 125 mL fresh lime juice
- Lime wheels and a few star anise
Stir the rum, juice and lime together, then add the ginger beer and ice. A black cauldron-style pot makes this one look the part. Serves about 16.
5. Vampire's Kiss Sangria (red wine)
Sangria is the best make-ahead drink there is. It actually improves after a night in the fridge.
- 2 bottles (750 mL each) dry red wine, such as Gato Negro Cabernet Sauvignon
- 125 mL cognac or brandy, such as Hennessy
- 250 mL pomegranate juice
- 250 mL orange juice
- 60 mL simple syrup
- Sliced oranges, blackberries and pomegranate seeds
Mix everything except the fruit garnish the day before. Add the fruit a few hours ahead and serve over ice. Serves about 10.
6. Black Widow Sparkler (sparkling rosé)
The low-effort option for a smaller crowd, and the lightest drink on the table.
- 1 bottle (750 mL) sparkling rosé, such as Luc Belaire Rosé
- 250 mL blackberry or black currant juice
- Fresh blackberries
Put a spoonful of juice and two blackberries in each flute and top with chilled sparkling wine. Pour each glass as you go so the bubbles stay lively. Serves about 8.

Don't forget the people who aren't drinking
Drivers, designated parents and anyone taking it easy should get something better than tap water. The easiest fix: make a second bowl of any punch without the spirit. The Witch's Brew and the Poison Apple punch both work perfectly without alcohol.
Label the bowls clearly ("WITH" and "WITHOUT" on a chalkboard sign does the job), and keep the boozy punch away from the candy table. A bright green drink next to a bowl of chocolate bars looks like it's for the kids.
How much alcohol to buy for a Halloween party
The starting point is one drink per guest per hour. Halloween parties usually start fast and slow down after the first couple of hours, so the totals below allow for that.
| Guests | 3-hour party | 4-hour party | A shopping list that covers it (4 hours) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 25–30 drinks | 30–35 drinks | 1 batch punch, 2 bottles of wine, a 12-pack of beer |
| 20 | 50–55 drinks | 60–70 drinks | 2 batch punches, 4 bottles of wine, 2 × 12-packs of beer |
| 30 | 75–85 drinks | 90–100 drinks | 3 batch punches, 6 bottles of wine, 3 × 12-packs of beer |
| 50 | 125–140 drinks | 150–170 drinks | 5 batch punches, 10 bottles of wine, 5 × 12-packs of beer |
Each batch punch above counts as about 16 drinks, a bottle of wine about 5 glasses, and a beer is one. For a full breakdown by drink type and party length, use our party alcohol calculator.
Buy one extra bottle of the spirit your main punch uses. The punch that runs out is always the popular one, and refilling it takes two minutes if the bottle's already there.

Halloween night timing in Ontario
Halloween isn't a holiday for liquor stores, so everything runs on normal Saturday hours. That's the trap. People assume a party night gets late hours, and it doesn't.
- Most LCBO stores close at 9 PM on Saturday, October 31. A few larger urban stores stay open until 10 PM. Check your store before you count on it. Full details are in our LCBO & Beer Store hours guide.
- Licensed grocery and corner stores sell until 11 PM, but only beer, wine, cider and coolers. No spirits, so they can't rescue a punch recipe. The rules are in Can You Buy Alcohol at Convenience Stores in Ontario?
- All alcohol delivery stops at 11 PM. That's the AGCO's rule, for every service. We explain it in How Late Can You Get Alcohol Delivered in Ontario?
- The clocks go back that night. Daylight saving time ends at 2 AM on Sunday, November 1, so you gain an hour of party. You don't gain an hour of delivery. The 11 PM cutoff comes at the same time as always.
The safe plan: buy the punch spirits by Saturday afternoon, and if you're running low, order before 10:30 PM.
Costumes and ID at the door
If you're ordering a delivery on Halloween, one small thing trips people up: the driver has to check your ID against your face. Ontario law requires any alcohol delivery to go to someone 19 or older with valid government photo ID, and a driver can't hand it over if they can't verify you.
- Take off the mask (or the face paint hood, or the full-head pumpkin) when you answer the door.
- Have your ID in your hand, not in a wallet upstairs under a cape.
- The person who answers has to be sober. Drivers are required to refuse a delivery to anyone who appears intoxicated, costume or not.

FAQ — Halloween party drinks
What are the best Halloween party drinks for a crowd? Batch cocktails you make in a punch bowl or pitcher. A green vodka punch, a blood orange margarita and an apple cider rye punch cover most tastes, and each one serves about 12–16 people from a single 750 mL bottle.
How do you make a Halloween punch with alcohol? Use one part spirit to about three parts mixer. For example, one 750 mL bottle of vodka with 1 L of pineapple juice, 500 mL of limeade and 1 L of lemon-lime soda. Chill everything first, add the soda last and use a block of ice instead of cubes.
How much alcohol do I need for a Halloween party of 20? About 60–70 drinks for a four-hour party. Two batch punches, four bottles of wine and two 12-packs of beer will cover it. Buy one extra bottle of the spirit in your most popular punch.
Can I make Halloween cocktails the day before? Yes, without the bubbles. Mix the spirit, juices and syrups and refrigerate overnight. Sangria actually improves overnight. Add soda, ginger beer or sparkling wine just before serving so it stays fizzy.
Is dry ice safe in drinks? Only if nobody can swallow it. Use food-grade dry ice, handle it with tongs, and serve the punch with a ladle so pieces don't end up in cups. Never put dry ice directly in an individual glass.
Is the LCBO open on Halloween? Yes. Halloween isn't a holiday, so the LCBO keeps normal Saturday hours on October 31, 2026. Most stores close at 9 PM.
What time does alcohol delivery stop on Halloween? 11 PM, the same as every night in Ontario. Daylight saving time ends early on November 1, but that doesn't extend the delivery window.
Ready before the first knock
Pick two punches, chill everything the night before, make a non-alcoholic bowl, and buy one more bottle than you think you need. That's a Halloween party that runs itself.
If you're in Niagara or Hamilton and the LCBO has already closed on you, we deliver beer, wine and the full spirits range until the legal 11 PM cutoff, with ID checked at the door by a Smart Serve certified driver. Call 416-627-7846, and call before 10:30.
